From its famed bull-running capital to dry and rocky badlands, Navarra is blessed with a variety of international grapes, but Garnacha is truly the shining star of this region. Every year on the third Friday in September, International Grenache Day celebrates one of the most widely planted grapes in the world, bringing awareness to the rich history and versatility of garnacha wine. This grape variety has made a significant impact on the global wine industry, with wineries like Remírez de Ganuza leading the way in producing exceptional garnacha wines.

José Ramón Urtasun, the visionary behind Remírez de Ganuza, has established his winery as one of the finest in the sector, with an unstoppable international projection. His dedication to crafting high-quality garnacha wines has earned him a reputation as a trailblazer in the industry.

From good-value quaffers to wines of substance, the diversity offered by Grenache was on full display at this year's blind tasting event, showcasing the range of flavors and styles that garnacha wine has to offer. With its generous citrusy acidity and notes of cherry compote, cinnamon, and brown sugar, garnacha wine is a true hidden gem waiting to be discovered.

The program's three-year coast-to-coast whirlwind US awareness campaign has successfully stimulated an increase in Garnacha wine consumption in the US, introducing more wine lovers to the joys of this versatile grape. With 10 bottles of New World Grenache to try, including the 2018 Yalumba the Tri-Centenary Ancestor Vine Grenache and the 2020 Kings Carey Spear Vineyards Grenache, there are plenty of opportunities to explore the unique flavors and aromas of garnacha wine.
